AU cross country teams run in Fredonia Invitational

FREDONIA, NY -- The Alfred University men's and women's cross country teams competed at SUNY Fredonia Saturday.

The AU squads competed against teams from Brockport and Fredonia. The Alfred women placed second and the Saxon men placed third.

Senior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) was the top AU women's runner, placing ninth on the five-kilometer course with a time of 20:41. Sophomore Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) was 10th in 20:25; and junior Melissa Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga) was 11th in 20:57.

The top three AU men's runners on the five-mile course were senior Corey Smith (Albion, NY/Albion), 22nd (28:32); senior Jim Thierman (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone), 24th (28:52); and sophomore Derek Denkenberger (Elmira, NY/Horseheads), 26th (29:03).

AU is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Houghton.
