ALFRED, NY — Alec Currier (Peru, NY/Peru), a sophomore strong safety on the Alfred University football team, has been named Defensive Player of the Week by the Empire 8 Conference.

The Empire 8 honored Currier for his play in Alfred’s 38-16 victory over visiting St. Lawrence Saturday, Sept. 19. The 6-1, 175-pound Currier had three interceptions, all in the first half, to go with five tackles. His second interception, with 28 seconds left in the half, came after St. Lawrence had driven inside the AU 10-yard line.

Alfred (3-0, 0-0 Empire 8) plays its Empire 8 opener this Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. against visiting Springfield.
