AU welcomes assistant professor of chemistry

Dr. Geoffrey Bowers has been appointed assistant professor of chemistry for the 2009-10 academic year at Alfred University.

Prior to this appointment, Bowers served as a visiting assistant professor of environmental chemistry at Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN; a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Chemistry at Michigan State University; a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Geology at the University of Illinois; as a graduate student in the Department of Chemistry, a teaching consultant in general chemistry, a supervising teaching assistant, and a teaching assistant in the general chemistry laboratory at the Pennsylvania State University,; and as a research and development co-op student for Raytech Composites.

Bowers has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering with a chemistry minor from Purdue University, where he also obtained an Industry-University Cooperative Education Certificate.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Clay Mineral Society, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
