Several AU football players among national statistical leaders

ALFRED, NY — The NCAA today released its weekly national statistical reports and several members of the Alfred University football team are listed among the leaders in Division III.

Senior wide receiver Jared Manzer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) ranks second in the nation in all-purpose yards per game (215.5) and sixth in total receiving yards (480), and senior tailback Vinson Hendrix (Rochester, NY/East) is fourth in the country in rushing yards per contest (150.75).

Manzer is among the nation’s leaders in several other categories. He is 15th in receiving yards per game (120.0), 16th in points scored per game (12.25); 23rd in punt return average (14.5 yards), 29th in receptions per game (7.00) and 32nd in kick return average (27.75 yards).

Other Division III statistical leaders from AU are: sophomore quarterback Tom Secky (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove), 32nd in passing efficiency (162.29); sophomore strong safety Alec Currier (Peru, NY/Peru), 27th in interceptions per game (0.75); senior punter Pete Marley (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw), 26th in punting average (39.11 yards); and sophomore linebacker Nick Clark (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood), 39th in tackles per game (10.50).

AU players rank first in several statistical categories in the Empire 8 Conference. Manzer leads the conference in all-purpose yards per game, receptions per game and kick return average; Hendrix leads in rushing yards per game; Currier leads in interceptions per game; Secky leads in passing efficiency; Marley leads in punting average; and sophomore placekicker Eric Rockwood (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) leads in PAT percentage (100 percent, 19-of-19).

Alfred (4-0, 1-0 Empire 8) is ranked 17th in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III national top-25 poll. The Saxons are idle this weekend and return to action Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m., at home against Empire 8 rival Hartwick.
