Center provides students, faculty with writing resources

The Alfred University Writing Center provides free writing assistance to all students, faculty, and staff. Whether they need help discovering ideas, organizing information, revising a final draft, taking essay exams, or preparing technical documents, the Writing Center helps improve writing abilities and confidence.

Dr. Vicky Westacott is director of the center. Eight students are working with her as tutors during the fall 2009 semester. They are:

Steve Burger, a senior English major from Woonsocket, RI; Arianna Carini, a junior fine arts major minoring in chemistry, from Bloomington IN; Bryan Daly, a junior interdisciplinary art and English major also concentrating in Spanish, from Florence, MA; Leah Houk, a senior psychology major minoring in Spanish and English, from Fairport; Kristin Kovatch, a senior English major minoring in equine studies and music, from Lansdale, PA; Kristin VanOrmer, a sophomore communication studies major, from Corning; Liz Wager, a junior English major with music and environmental studies minors, from Jamestown; and Nick Walker, a sophomore history and political science major, from Cambridge Springs, MA.

Westacott earned a Ph.D. and master of arts degrees, both in applied linguistics, from the University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor of arts degree in classics from the McGill University.
