Exhibition of John Wood's work to open in Syracuse
“John Wood: On the Edge of Clear Meaning” a retrospective exhibition of work by John Wood, a 1958 alumnus and professor emeritus in the School of Art & Design at Alfred University, opens Oct. 29 at the Syracuse University Art Galleries.
The exhibition is open to the public, free of charge.
The work will remain on display through Jan. 10; the gallery is located in the Shaffer Art Building on the Syracuse University campus. A reception with the artist will be 5-7 p.m. Nov. 12 at the gallery.
The traveling exhibition is courtesy of the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester.
Wood taught in the School of Art & Design, College of Ceramics for 35 years. His works are included in a number of major photographic collections in the United States.
The exhibition highlights various aspects of Woods’ career as an artist, photographer and educator. The pieces chosen for the exhibitions showcase Wood’s prolific career from the late 1950s to the present and reflect his interest in photography, collage, solarization, mixed media, lithography, drawing, and more.
