AU swimming and diving teams open season at Nazareth 10/24/09
Freshman Nate Chapman (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and senior Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) and Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) each won two events to lead the Saxons (1-0, 1-0 Empire 8). Chapman won the 800-meter and 400-meter freestyle races; Brisson won the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle; and Chambliss won 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Also winning races for the AU men were sophomore Andrew Moragne (Cleveland, OH/University) in the 50-meter freestyle; senior Greg Pilgrim (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) in the 100-meter butterfly; and sophomore Warren Dolben (Rye, NH/Berwick Academy) in the 100-meter breaststroke. AU won both men’s relays. Junior Matt Lobban (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon), Dolben, junior Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris) and freshman Tyler Diesenberg (Avon, NY/Avon) won the 200-meter medley relay, while Moragne, Chapman, junior Dan Steere (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Brisson won the 400-meter freestyle relay. Lobban finished second in the 800 and 400 freestyle and Mix took second in the 100-meter fly and 50-meter free. Senior Sipol Smakpunt (Colorado Springs, CO/Sierra) was second in both diving events. Junior Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) led the Alfred women (0-1, 0-1 Empire 8) with wins in the 100-meter and 50-meter freestyle. Sophomore Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) earned Alfred’s other win, taking the 100-meter backstroke. Other top swimmers for the AU women were junior Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia), second in the 800-meter free, and freshman Kylie Smith (Abington, PA/Abington), second in 1-meter diving. The Alfred men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Geneseo Invitational. |
