AU swimming and diving teams place second at Geneseo Invitational

GENESEO, NY – The Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swam at the Geneseo Invitaitonal meet Saturday afternoon. Both AU teams placed second out of three teams competing.

Senior Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) won the 100-yard freestyle (47.91 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (1:47.25) to lead the AU men’s team. Senior Greg Pilgrim (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) earned the Saxons’ other individual win, taking the 100-butterfly in 54.68. The team of junior Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga), junior Dan Steere (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond), sophomore Andrew Moragne (Cleveland, OH/University) and Brisson won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:16.72.

Other top performers for the Alfred men were: Olsen, second in the 200 free (1:50.07) and 100 free (49.98 seconds); sophomore Warren Dolben (Rye, NH/Berwick Academy), second in the 100 breast (1:03.12) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.97); freshman Nate Chapman (Hornell, NY/Hornell), second in the 1,000-yard free (10:29.39); Moragne and Steere, fourth (22.83 seconds) and fifth (22.97), respectively, in the 50 free; junior Ted Remington (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), fourth in the 200 IM (2:11.06) and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (58.11); junior Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris), fifth in the 100-yard fly (56.20); and junior Matt Lobban (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), fourth in the 500 free (5:15.33).

Top swimmers for the AU women were: junior Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn), second in the 50 free (25.42 seconds) and third in the 100 free (57.20); junior Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia), third in the 1,000-yard free (12:04.54) and fifth in the 500 free (5:57.23); freshman Shelby Remington (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), fourth in the 200 free (2:12.42); freshman Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City), fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:07.54); and freshman Katie Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Genseo won both the men’s and women’s meet, while Brockport took third in both matchups. The AU men’s team scored 475 points to finish behind Geneseo (526). The Alfred women’s team’s 336 points were enough to edge Brockport (333). The AU men and women are in action next on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. at home against RIT.
