AU’s Schrader, Ewoldt named Empire 8 women’s soccer all-stars

ALFRED, NY – Alfred University’s Carly Schrader (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie Valley) have been named an Empire 8 Conference women’s soccer all-stars.

The Empire 8 announced its all-star teams today and Schrader, a senior defender, and Ewoldt a sophomore goalkeeper, were given honorable mention.

Schrader, a team captain, started 15 games for the Lady Saxons, scoring one goal and assisting on another. Ewoldt, in her first year on the team, started all 16 games in goal and made 127 saves, finishing with a 1.51 goals against average and .841 save percentage with four shutouts.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Schrader is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s soccer team.

Alfred finished the 2009 season with a 5-8-3 record (0-8-0 Empire 8).
