AU vice president to present ‘Story Behind Women’s Leadership Center’
Kathy Woughter, vice president of Student Affairs at Alfred University, will present “The Story Behind the Women’s Leadership Center” on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at the Bergren Forum, 12:10 p.m. in the AU Powell Campus Center’s Nevins Theatre. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Many years ago, faculty and staff on campus began advocating for a women’s center on Alfred’s campus, in keeping with the University’s history of equality and inclusion with regard to women students. This Bergren Forum will explore some of the early data that was used to support the need for a traditional women’s center, and will trace forward the way in which the AU community was able to conceptualize, advocate for, and eventually secure funding for what is now, the Women’s Leadership Center.
Woughter hopes to share a story of collaboration and advocacy, but also hopes the audience will share its recollections to help fill in many gaps that still exist.
Woughter graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a bachelor of science degree in biology and secondary education, and from Alfred University with a master of science degree in counseling. Prior to her current position, Woughter was director of the Career Development Center at Alfred University and coordinator of Career Counseling Services for the University.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
