AU swimming and diving teams compete at Don Richards Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY – Alfred University’s men’s team is in third place and the AU women are in sixth after the Friday’s first day of action at the RIT-hosted Don Richards Invitational swimming and diving meet.

AU is among six men’s and women’s teams competing at the three-day meet, which continues Saturday and concludes on Sunday; the others are Ithaca, Nazareth, RIT, LeMoyne and Hartwick. The Ithaca men are in first after Friday’s events – the 200-yard medley relay, the 1,650-yard freestyle and 1-meter diving – with 131 points, ahead of second-place Hartwick (126 points) and Alfred (110 points). Ithaca’s women lead with 175 points; the AU women are sixth with 35.

Senior Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) led the AU men Friday, winning 1-meter diving (419.40 points). Freshman Nate Chapman (Hornell, NY/Hornell) (17:35.72) and junior Matt Lobban (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) (17:44.29) were second and third, respectively, in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Freshman Phil Yanella (Glenmoore, PA/Downington West) took 10th in 1-meter diving (263.80 points).

The team of sophomore Richard Guarniero (New York Mills, NY/Thomas R. Proctor), sophomore Warren Dolben (Rye, NH/Berwick Academy), senior Greg Pilgrim (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) and sophomore Andrew Moragne (Cleveland, OH/University) placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.14).

Freshman Kylie Smith (Abington, PA/Abington) paced the AU women Friday with a sixth-place finish in 3-meter diving (274.70 points). Junior Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia) was 12th in the 1,650-yard medley relay.

Sophomore Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo), freshmen Katie Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and junior Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) took 10th in the 200 medley relay (2:00.81).
