AU ski teams host races at Swain
The Alfred women’s won the giant slalom event Saturday and took second in the slalom Sunday. The team finished the combined team standings tied for first with Syracuse University, but lost the tiebreaker and had to settle for second place. The Alfred men’s team took fourth and sixth place, respectively, in the GS and slalom and was fourth in the combined team standings.
Senior Lauren Pfeifer (Livonia, NY/Livonia) swept the GS and slalom events and finished first in the women’s individual combined for the second time in as many meets this season. Senior Ulana Bihun (Jericho, VT/Mansfield) was seventh in the slalom and 16th in the giant slalom; junior Megan Caggianelli (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was eighth and 10th, respectively, in the GS and slalom; freshman Claire Dvorak (Tully, NY/Tully) was 19th in the giant slalom and 20th in the slalom.
Sophomore Steve Barton (Dansville, NY/Dansville) paced the Alfred men’s team, taking 12th in both the giant slalom and slalom. Senior Harrison Hendricks (Sodus, NY/Sodus) was 11th in the slalom and 21st in the GS; senior Joel Buchanan (Almond, NY/Scio) was 18th in the GS; and sophomore Ryan Nanni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was 24th in the giant slalom.
The Alfred men's and women's teams are in action next on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30 and 31, at Bristol Mountain.
