Fisher defeats Lady Saxons, 50-48

PITTSFORD, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team came up short against St. John Fisher, 50-48, Tuesday evening.

Alfred (9-12, 3-9 Empire 8) and Fisher were tied, 25-25, at intermission. Alfred shot 27 percent to Fisher’s 36 percent in the first half.

AU jumped out to a 27-25 lead in the first minute of the second half with a layup by senior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia). Alfred was able to increase the lead to nine points (41-32) with 8:40 remaining. The Cardinals (13-8, 8-6 Empire 8) then outscored the Lady Saxons 11-0 in a three minute span to take the lead, 45-43. AU was able to tie Fisher 46-46 with 3:30 remaining, but the Cardinals took the lead for good in the final two minutes of the game.

For the game, Alfred shot 34 percent and Fisher shot 31 percent.

Junior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) scored a game-high 24 points and had six rebounds to lead the Lady Saxons. Junior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) netted eight points and had a team-high four assists and eight boards. Dias and senior forward Hannah Meier (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) each chipped in with five points.

Colleen Maloney scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds to pace Fisher. Stephanie Sweeney added eight points and had a game-high six assists and Mary Kate Comfort also added eight points.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Feb. 12, against Utica.
