AU Western equestrian team hosts pair of Saturday shows

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University Western equestrian team hosted two shows on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Saxons placed third in the first show and won the second.

Top riders for Alfred were seniors Kristen Kovatch (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and Lauren Pfeifer (Livonia, NY/Livonia). Kovatch placed first in two events — Open Reining and Open Horsemanship — in the second show and was named high point rider. Pfeifer was reserve high point rider in both shows. She won Open Reining and was second in Open Horsemanship in the first show; she won Open Horsemanship and was second in Open Reining in the second show.

Other AU riders winning events in the first show were: Catherine vonHagn, Advanced Horsemanship; senior Michelle Applebaum (Applegate, CA/Maidu), Advanced Horsemanship; senior Charity Chaffee (Auburn, NY/Auburn), Intermediate Horsemanship II; and senior Nick Munch (Freeville, NY), Intermediate Horsemanship I.

Other top riders for AU in the first show were: junior Allison Lawrence (New Paltz, NY/Oakwood Friends), third place in Open Reining; senior Alicia Pickett-Hale (Concord, NH/Concord) and sophomore Annilee Obrochta (Angola, NY/Lake Shore), second and third, respectively, in Open Horsemanship; freshman Kristen Eklin (Bovey, MN) and junior Brittney Beigel (Ridge, NY/Longwood), third in Novice Horsemanship; junior Kelly Rogan (Smithtown, NY), third in Intermediate Horsemanship I; juniors Peter Metz (Syracuse, NY) and Emily Merkey (Walworth, NY/Wayne), second and third, respectively, in Beginner Horsemanship; and senior Kate West (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion), third in advanced horsemanship.

Other Saxons riders winning first-place blue ribbons in the second show were: senior Natalie Grow (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), Advanced Horsemanship; Eklin and sophomore Olivia Campbell, (North Java, NY), Novice Horsemanship; sophomore Katie LeSuer (Edinboro, PA/Cambridge Springs), Intermediate Horsemanship II; sophomore Kaitlyn Bentley (Jamestown, NY), Intermediate Horsemanship I; and Metz, Beginner Horsemanship.

Other top riders for AU in the second show were: Pickett-Hale and Obrochta, second and third, respectively, in Open Horsemanship; vonHagn and Applebaum, third in advanced horsemanship; sophomore Kalcy O’Keefe (Rochester, NY), third in Novice Horsemanship; juniors Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Kamilla Bramham (Brooksville, MN), third in Intermediate Horsemanship II; and Rogan and Munch, second and third, respectively, in Intermediate Horsemanship I.

The AU Western team is in action next on Sunday, Feb. 21, for two shows at Lehman Farms in Pittsford, NY, hosted by SUNY Oswego.
