AU track and field teams compete at Kane Invitational 2/15/10
Senior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) shattered the AU women's record in the mile run, finishing 13th with a time of 5:21.95. She broke the previous school mark of 5:25.81, set in 2003 by Millicent Boadi. Sophomore Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) and junior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) each earned third-place finishes to pace the AU men. Scott was third in the 400-meter dash (51.26 seconds) and Ross was third in the shot put (14.35 meters). Also placing in the top-10 for the Alfred men were senior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane), eighth in the 500-meter run (1:09.42), and senior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville), 10th in the 800-meter run (2:01.64). The team of Consolo, Scott, freshman Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), and Phillips was second in the 4X400-meter relay (3:32.24). Other top performers for the Saxons were: freshman Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), 16th in the 200-meter dash (24.04 seconds) and 23rd in the 60-meter dash (7.39 seconds) and long jump (5.89 meters); Weaver, 25th in the 200 meters (24.31); sophomore Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), 23rd in the 1,000-meter run (2:46.30); sophomore Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond), 21st in the long jump (5.96 meters); and junior Markenson Joseph (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional), 17th in the weight throw (12.92 meters). Freshman Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) took sixth in the 500-meter run (1:26.51) to lead the AU women. Senior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads), senior Rachel Gaylord (Elmira, NY/Horseheads), junior Melissa Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga) and sophomore Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) took seventh in the 4X800-meter relay (10:43.43). Other top performers for the AU women were: Gaylord and Haahr, 13th (3:25.31) and 14th (3:26.14), respectively, in the 1,000-meter run; sophomore Anne Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), 13th in the 60-meter hurdles (10.14 seconds); freshman Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), 16th in the shot put (10.14 meters); and freshman Emily Moorehead (Waverly, NY/Waverly), 14th in the weight throw (12.05 meters) and 25th in the shot put (9.37 meters). Alfred competes next on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Denault Invitational, hosted by Cornell. |
