AU women’s soccer team holds honors banquet

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s soccer team held its annual banquet last week, with team awards and honors handed out to several players.

Junior goalie Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie Valley) was named Team MVP. Ewoldt was an honorable mention Empire 8 all-star, played in 16 games (starting 12) and had 1.51 goals against average and a .841 save percentage with four shutouts.

Senior Carly Schrader (Vestal, NY/Vestal) was named Defensive MVP. An Empire 8 honorable mention all-star and team captain, Schrader started 15 games for the Lady Saxons, scoring one goal and assisting on another.

Junior forward Elizabeth Graham (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) was named Offensive MVP. Graham, who scored two goals for AU in 2009, also won the Offensive MVP award in 2008.

Freshman midfielder Tracie McGinnity Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) was named First Year MVP (top rookie). She played in 16 games, starting five, and scored one goal.

Senior midfielder Amanda Sullivan (Lexington, MA/Lexington), a team captain, earned the Unsung Hero-Team Award for a second time. She played in and started 16 games and had a goal and two assists.

Alfred, which finished the 2009 season with a 5-8-3 record (0-8-0 Empire 8), loses five seniors: Sullivan, Schrader, defender Amy Buisman (Rochester, NY/Penfield), forward Alyssa Raykovitz (Andover, NY/Andover), and midfielder Danna Reynolds (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond).
