Lady Saxons defeated by RIT, 61-52

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team was defeated by host RIT, 61-52, Tuesday night in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Junior point guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) scored four three-point shots in the first half to help give Alfred the lead, 35-25, at intermission. Alfred (9-14, 3-11 Empire 8) shot 41 percent in the first half, while RIT shot 30 percent.

After two free throw shots by Murphy, the Lady Saxons increased their lead, 37-25, in the beginning of the second half. RIT then went on a run and outscored AU, 16-1, in a seven-minute span to take the lead for good, 41-38, with 11:30 remaining.

RIT (11-12, 5-9 Empire 8) sank six of seven three-point attempts after intermission and finished the contest shooting 35 percent and Alfred shot 28 percent.

Murphy scored a game-high 23 points and had a team-high nine rebounds to lead AU. Junior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) netted eight points and had a game-high eight assists and senior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) added seven points and brought down six boards.

Leslie Havens scored a team-high 16 points and had five assists to pace RIT. Danielle Furman added 15 points and Anne Wapshare netted 11 points.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. vs. Elmira.
