AU 13th after day two at state women’s swimming and diving championships

SYRACUSE, NY -- Alfred University is in 13th place after two days at the New York State women’s swimming and diving championships.

AU is among 17 teams competing at the championships, which are being held through Saturday, Feb. 20, at Nottingham High School in Syracuse. Alfred finished Friday’s events with 164 points; Ithaca leads with 906 points.

Junior Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) led the Saxons Friday with a 19th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.44). Freshman Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) was 21st in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.23).

Sophomore Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo), freshman Katie Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), Matich and Blair placed 13th in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.45) and junior Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia), Matich, freshman Shelby Remington (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) and Blair were 12th in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:28.72).

The championships conclude Saturday Friday with the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, three-meter diving, and 400-yard freestyle relay.
