Ski teams' season ends at regionals

BRISTOL, NY -- The Alfred University men's and women's Alpine ski teams competed Thursday and Friday at the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Mideast Regional championships at Bristol Mountain.

The AU men placed fourth overall (fourth in Thursday's giant slalom and sixth in Friday's slalom). The Alfred women (fifth in the GS and 11th in the slalom) finished seventh overall. Only the top three teams of the 11 competing advance to the USCSA national championships next month in Sunday River, ME.

Sophomore Stephen Barton (Dansville, NY/Dansville) was 13th in the giant slalom and 22nd in the slalom to lead the AU men. Senior Joel Buchanon (Almond, NY/Scio) was 17th in the GS and 21st in the slalom and senior Harrison Hendricks (Sodus, NY/Sodus) was 15th in the slalom and 18th in the GS.

Senior Lauren Pfeifer (Livonia, NY/Livonia), a three-time All-American, placed fourth in the giant slalom for the AU women. She did not ski the slalom. Junior Megan Caggianelli (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was 12th in the GS and senior Ulana Bihun (Jericho, VT/Mt. Mansfield) was 15th in the slalom.
