AU women’s swimming and diving team finishes 13th at state championships

SYRACUSE, NY – The Alfred University women’s swimming and diving team finished 13th at the New York State championship meet, which concluded Saturday evening in Syracuse.

The state meet was held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Nottingham High School. AU finished with 195 points; Ithaca won the championship with 1,403 points and Stevens finished second with 1,228 points.

Freshman Kylie Smith (Abington, PA/Abington) placed 14th in three-meter diving (317.70 points) for the AU women. Junior Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) took 15th in the 100-yard freestyle (55.40 seconds) and freshman Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) was 19th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:23.01). Junior Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia) was 25th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:26.01).

The team of Blair, Merritt, senior Meghan Jones (Beaver Falls, NY/Beaver River) and freshman Shelby Remington (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) placed 25th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:56.32).
