Chambliss set to compete at NCAA championships

ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University senior Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) will compete in both diving events at next week's NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships.

Chambliss learned Friday that his qualifyig scores on the three-meter and one-meter boards were good enough to get him into the first national meet of his stellar career at AU. The championships will be held March 17-20, in Minneapolis, MN.

Chambliss met NCAA qualifying standards 10 times this season, most recently at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA)/Empire 8 Conference championships last weekend in Syracuse. Chambliss won UNYSCSA and Empire 8 titles on both boards and was named Diver of the Meet. At the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 meet, he set new school records on both the three-meter (497.05 points) and one-meter board (466.35). His three-meter score was also an Empire 8 championship meet record.

Six other members of the AU men's team met NCAA "B" provisional cuts times at last week's UNYSCSA/Empire 8 meet, but they weren't fast enough to earn them spots at the NCAA championships.

Senior Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) met "B" cut standards in winning UNYSCSA/Empire 8 titles in the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle; Brisson (backstroke), sophomore Warren Dolben (Rye, NH/Berwick Academy) (breaststroke), and juniors Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris)(butterfly) and Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga)(freestyle) earned "B" cuts in the 400-yard medley relay; and sophomore Andrew Moragne (Cleveland, OH/University), junior Dan Steere (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond), Olsen and Brisson met "B" cut standards in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
