ALFRED, NY — Chelsey Cary (Corfu, NY/Pembroke), a junior on the Alfred University softball team, has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Pitcher of the Week.

Cary was honored for her play during the Saxons’ six-game spring trip in Cocoa Beach, FL, last week. She had two no-hitters among her three pitching victories, allowing a single unearned run, striking out 21 and walking four while allowing three hits in 15 innings pitched. She threw five-inning no-hitters against Southern Vermont and Castleton (VT) State (both 8-0 AU victories), striking out nine and eight batter, respectively. She fanned four and allowed an unearned run on three hits in a five-inning 10-1 win over Finlandia.

She was also named Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week.

Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, March 24, for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Hornell High School against visiting Pitt-Bradford.
