AU men’s tennis team splits pair of weekend matches

BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University men’s tennis team rebounded from a narrow season-opening loss at Penn State-Behrend Friday to shut out host D’Youville College, 9-0, Saturday evening.

Against D’Youville, Alfred (1-1) got singles wins from junior Connor Houghton (Orleans, MA/Nauset Regional), 6-0, 6-0 in first singles; junior Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), 6-1, 6-0 in second singles; sophomore Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford), 6-0, 6-1 in third singles; sophomore Nathan Kucko (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks), 6-1, 6-1 in fourth singles; freshman Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), 6-1, 6-1 in fifth singles; and sophomore Kyle McDevitt (Underhill, VT/Mt. Mansfield Union), 6-0, 6-0 in sixth singles.

Houghton and Schneider won their first doubles match, 8-0; Kucko and Nonnenmann took second doubles, 8-0; and sophomore Alex Wicks (Arlington, VA/Washington & Lee) and freshman Trenton Berardi (Warren, PA/Warren) won third doubles, 8-5.

In the loss at Behrend, Alfred got singles wins from Garletts, 6-2, 6-3 in third singles; Kucko, 6-0, 6-2 in fourth singles; and Nonnenmann, 6-4, 6-1 in fifth singles. Kucko and Nonnenmann won second doubles, 8-3, and Garletts and junior Ryan Parlia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) took third doubles, 8-5.

AU is in action next on Friday, April 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Keystone College.
