AU’s Chambliss named Empire 8 Diver of the Year

ALFRED, NY — Alfred University senior Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) has been named Empire 8 Conference Diver of the Year.

Chambliss enjoyed the best season ever for an AU men’s diver, breaking all major school diving records — three-meter and one-meter dual meet (six dives) and three-meter and one-meter championship (11 dives) — and earning All-American recognition on both boards at the NCAA Division III championships.

He also won Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA) and Empire 8 three-meter and one-meter titles. Chambliss was named an Empire 8 First Team all-star for both boards and was named Empire 8 Diver of the Meet for the conference championships.

Chambliss also won Empire 8 Diver of the Meet and Diver of the Year honors and was a First Team Empire 8 all-star in 2009, when he won three-meter and one-meter titles at the conference championships.

This season, Chambliss broke AU pool records in three-meter and one-meter diving. He set school dual-meet and pool records in three-meter diving (316.15 points) and one-meter diving (288.50) against Utica on Jan. 15. He set the three-meter and one-meter school championship marks at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 meet, then broke both records at the NCAA championships, when he placed fifth in three-meter diving (501.15 points) and sixth in one-meter diving (477.36 points).

Chambliss is only the second diver in AU program history to earn All-American honors — John Sturm placed fifth in three-meter diving in 1985 — and is the only AU diver ever to earn multiple All-American honors.
