AU women’s lacrosse team falls to Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team was defeated by host Stevens, 19-7, in their first Empire 8 conference game of the season.

AU (3-2, 0-1 Empire 8) trailed Stevens 16-6 at the half after being outshot by Stevens, 28-9. In the second half the Lady Saxons only allowed three goals and were outshot 8-3.

Junior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY /Horseheads) netted five goals to lead Alfred. Junior midfielder Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) and senior attack Abbey Schaffnit (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) (two assists) each scored one goal.

Spencer Waybright (one assist) and Leah Wasserman (two assists) each scored four goals to pace Stevens (6-1, 1-0 Empire 8). Alyssa Pigott (two assists) netted three goals and Katie Lalli scored two goals. Jenna Scheibling, Christine Smith, Michelle Buonacuore, Claire Eudy, Dana Lyons, and Joey Galligan each scored one goal.

Junior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went the distance in goal for Alfred, making nine saves while allowing 19 goals. Meg Collins and Shannon McFadden split time in goal for Stevens. Collins made three saves while allowing 6 goals and McFadden made one save and allowed one goal.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m. against host Hartwick.
