AU outdoor track and field teams compete at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, PA – The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the Muhlenberg College Invitational meet. There were no team scores.

Sophomore Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) led the Alfred men’s team, winning the 400-meter dash (50.08 seconds) and placing second in the 200-meter dash (22.88 seconds). Scott also ran the anchor, with seniors Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) and freshman Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), on the 4X400-meter relay that took second (3:26.85).

Sophomore Justin Shardlow (Almond, NY/Alfred Station) and sophomore Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport) placed third (6.05 meters) and eighth (5.66 meters), respectively, in the long jump; freshman Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) and Weaver were seventh (11.85 seconds) and eighth (11.89 seconds), respectively, in the 100-meter dash; Phillips and Weaver were fourth (52.32 seconds) and sixth (52.47 seconds), respectively, in the 400-meter dash; Consolo was third in the 800-meter run (1:57.98); sophomore Cody Gleason (Chautauqua Lake, NY) was third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.88 seconds) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.75); senior Corey Smith (Albion, NY/Albion) and freshman Eric Shormann (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) were seventh (17:13.69) and eighth (17:54.99), respectively, in the 5,000-meter run; and sophomore Torrance Jones (Rochester, NY/Marshall) was 10th in the shot put (11.00 meters).

Lopez, sophomore Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), Shardlow and Scott were second in the 4X100-meter relay (44.02 seconds).

Freshmen Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) and Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) led the Alfred women’s team. Larkins was fifth in the long jump (4.00 meters) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.79 seconds) and Morrissey placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.77). Morrissey and Larkins were sixth (28.30 seconds) and eighth (28.85 seconds), respectively, in the 200-meter dash, while Morrissey, freshman Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters), senior Rachel Gaylord (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) and Larkins took third in the 4X100-meter relay (54.43 seconds).

Sophomore Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) was sixth in the 1,500-meter run (5:13.56); junior Melissa Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga) was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:31.53); Gaylord and junior Jen Chan (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley) were second (1:14.57) and fifth (1:23.04), respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles; Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY) was fourth in the shot put (8.78 meters) and seventh in the discus (23.46 meters).

The team of Chan, Phillips-Jones, Haahr and Gaylord took second in the 4X800-meter relay (10:34.13).

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 10, at Slippery Rock (PA) University.
