AU men’s tennis team beats Keystone, falls to Stevens

LAPLUME, PA – The Alfred University men’s tennis team split two road matches over the weekend. The Saxons beat non-conference foe Keystone, 8-1, on Friday, then lost their Empire 8 opener, 8-1, to Stevens on Saturday.

Against Keystone, AU (2-2, 0-1 Empire 8) got singles wins from got singles wins from junior Connor Houghton (Orleans, MA/Nauset Regional), 6-1, 6-0 in first singles; junior Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), 6-1, 6-1 in second singles; sophomore Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford), 6-1, 6-0 in third singles; sophomore Nathan Kucko (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks), 6-4, 6-0 in fourth singles; and freshman Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), 6-0, 6-1 in fifth singles.

Houghton and Schneider won their first doubles match, 8-4; Kucko and Nonnenmann took second doubles, 8-3; and Garletts and junior Ryan Parlia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) took third doubles, 8-1.

Nonnenmann earned Alfred’s lone victory in the Stevens match, taking fifth singles, 4-6, 6-0, 12-10.

AU is in action next on Tuesday, April 6, at 4 p.m. at Elmira College.
