ALFRED, NY — Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), a junior at Alfred University, has been named Empire 8 Conference men’s outdoor track and field Athlete of the Week.

Scott was honored for his performance Saturday, April 3, at the Muhlenberg College Invitational meet. He won the 400-meter dash in 50.08 seconds and took second in the 200-meter dash in 22.88 seconds).

Scott also ran on two relays that finished turned in runner-up finishes. He ran the anchor, with seniors Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) and freshman Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), on the 4X400-meter relay that took second in 3:26.85. He also ran on the 4X100-meter relay, with freshman Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland and sophomores Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and Justin Shardlow (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond), which placed second in 44.02 seconds.

The AU men’s and women’s track and field teams are in action next on Saturday, April 10, at the Slippery Rock (PA) University Invitational.
