Alfred University women’s lacrosse falls to RIT, 20-7

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team was defeated, 20-7, by visiting RIT Sunday afternoon.

Alfred (5-5, 1-4 Empire 8) trailed RIT, 13-5, at the half. For the game, the Lady Saxons were outshot 48-17.

Junior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) (five groundballs) and senior attack Abbey Schaffnit (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) each netted two goals to lead the AU. Freshman midfielders Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/ Greece Olympia) and Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) and sophomore midfielder Ivy Lam (Sanford, ME/Sanford) each scored one goal. Sophomore defender Hannah Scott (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) picked up a team-high six groundballs.

Danielle Previe scored four goals and Allyson Pisher (game-high eight groundballs) and Shelby Vakiener each scored three goals and had three assists to pace RIT (9-3, 4-1 Empire 8). Tina Podrasky, Ashley Pezze, Rebecca Lampson each netted two goals. Eileen Hennigna, Carly Augustyn, Sarah Frisicano and Caroline Levine each scored one goal.

Junior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made 19 saves in goal for Alfred. Katelyn Crane played 55:19 in goal for RIT, making seven saves and allowing seven goals and Pisher played the remaining time in goal.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, April 16, at 4 p.m. at Ithaca College.
