Hartwick edges AU men’s tennis team

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s tennis team fell just short in its mastch with visiting Empire 8 foe Hartwick Saturday afternoon, losing 5-4.

Alfred (5-7, 1-5 Empire 8) swept the three doubles matches before dropping five of singles matchups. Hartwick improves to 8-4 (3-3 Empire 8) with the win.

Junior Connor Houghton (Orleans, MA/Nauset Regional) and junior Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) took their first doubles match, 8-4; sophomore Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford) and freshman Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) took second doubles, 9-7; and sophomore Nathan Kucko (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) and junior Ryan Parlia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) won an 8-2 decision in 8-5 in third doubles.

Nonnenmann earned the only singles victory for the Saxons, taking fifth singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Alfred is in action next on Sunday, April 25, at 1 p.m. at Ithaca.
