Saxons fall to Ithaca, 13-1

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team was defeated by Ithaca, 13-1, Wednesday afternoon.

Alfred (3-10, 0-7 Empire 8) trailed 6-1 at the half. For the game, Ithaca outshot AU, 45-19, and picked up 38 groundballs to Alfred’s 25.

Junior attack Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) scored Alfred’s lone goal on an assist from senior attack Mike Russo (Mattydale, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse).

Tom Mongelli netted a game-high four goals and had one assist to lead Ithaca. Devin Weinshank scored three goals and Jay Lucas scored two goals. Chris Shearin, Brian DiBetta, James Callahan and Nic Heckman each scored one goal. Nick Munn picked up a game-high six groundballs

Freshman goalie Tim Doyle (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) played the first 54 minutes in goal for Alfred, making nine saves and allowing 12 goals. Sophomore goalie John Landi (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) played the remaining time in goal, making two saves and allowing one goal. David Gal played the first 56 minutes in goal for Ithaca (6-9, 4-3 Empire 8), making nine saves and allowing one goal and Brendan Green played the remaining time in goal.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, May 1, at 4 p.m. vs. Hartwick
