Three AU women’s lacrosse players earn all-conference honors

ALFRED, NY — Three members of the Alfred University women’s lacrosse team have been named Empire 8 Conference all stars.

Junior attacker Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), senior defender Emily Steen (South Pasadena, CA/Purnell) and sophomore defender Hannah Scott (Braintree, VT/Randolph Union) were each given honorable mention by the Empire 8, which announced its all-conference teams today.

Adams finished the season with 62 points on 55 goals and seven assists. Her 55 goals led the team and ranked tops in the Empire 8. Her 62 points also led the team and were tied for third in the conference. Adams earned honorable mention from the Empire 8 as a sophomore in 2009.

Steen earned all-conference recognition for a third time; he was an honorable mention pick last year and a Second Team all-star in 2008. She finished the 2010 season with five goals and two assists to go with 36 groundballs, 14 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers.

Scott, a starting defender each of her two seasons at AU, is a first-time conference all-star. She finished a solid sophomore campaign with 45 groundballs, nine draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. Her 3.21 groundballs per game ranks fourth in the conference.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Alfred’s women’s lacrosse honoree is sophomore attacker Ivy Lam (Sanford, ME/Sanford).

AU finished the season with a 7-8 record (1-7 Empire 8).
