Alfred University’s Hedrick earns All-American honors
Just a sophomore, Hedrick becomes the first player in the 17-year history of the AU softball program to earn All-American recognition.
Hedrick had already been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year, a First Team Empire 8 all-star as a utility player, and an NFCA First Team Northeast Region all-star. She helped lead the Saxons to a share of the Empire 8 Conference regular season title and the school’s first-ever berth in the NCAA championships, where AU fell to Ithaca in the regional final and ended its most successful season ever at 37-8.
Hedrick was a big part of the Saxons’ success. She led the team in batting (.429), on-base percentage (.465), slugging (.721), and homeruns (9) and also had 32 RBIs (second on the team) and 12 doubles (third). She set new school single-season records in runs (46), hits (66) and stolen bases (25). As a pitcher, Hedrick went 19-4 (the 19 wins are a new school single-season mark) with a 1.32 ERA, five shutouts and 116 strikeouts. Her 31 pitching wins in her first two seasons are tied for the AU career record.
Alfred set a school single-season record for wins in a season (37) in 2010. The team won it’s first ever Empire 8 regular season crown and achieved its first-ever national ranking (25th the week of May 3). Hedrick is one of seven starters and one of six Empire 8 all-stars set to return to the team next season.
