Almond resident awarded honorary alumna distinction for 30 years at Alfred University

Linda White of Almond received the Alfred University Honorary Alumnus/a Recognition Award during the 124th Annual Alumni Association Awards Picnic earlier this month. The award is given to a non-graduate in recognition of interest, allegiance, and service to AU and alumni.

White was nominated by John Gill, professor of ceramics, and Beth Woodworth, secretary for the director of development, University Relations, for her role with graduate programs in the Alfred University Art Department, School of Art and Design, NYS College of Ceramics.

White oversees all aspects of the two years of graduate study for 36 students in the School of Art & Design. She also maintains records for past and current students in the master of fine arts program, and keeps in contact with alumni of the program to forward job and exhibition information.

White also assists in organizing the annual National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts meeting of AU students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
According to her nominators, she has continued to demonstrate a high level of care, commitment, and professionalism in working with students, alumni, faculty, and staff, and the programs of the department.

As it has every year since U.S. News and World Report began ranking master of fine arts programs, the ceramic art program in the School of Art & Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is ranked top in the nation. In the words of her nominators, White “has in no small way contributed to the rankings in the School of Art & Design.”
