Alumnus publishes book on Biblical characters

David Perlstein, a member of the AU class of 1966, has just published “God's Others: Non Israelites' Encounters With God in the Hebrew Bible” (New York and Bloomington: iUniverse, 2010). Rabbi Martin S. Weiner, former president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, wrote the foreword.

“God's Others” tells 25 stories of Biblical characters or groups with direct or historical experiences with God. They include Hagar, Abraham's concubine; Zipporah, Midianite wife of Moses; the pharaoh of the Exodus; Balaam, the Midianite prophet; Rahab, harlot of Jericho; Naaman, general of Aram; Ruth, Moabite great-grandmother of David; and Job—an Uzzite, not an Israelite.

"God's Others" is available at, and (Barnes and Noble) in print and digital versions.

A retired advertising creative director/writer/producer, David authored "Solo Success 100 Tips for Becoming a $100,000-a-Year Freelancer " (New York: Crown Publishers, 1998). He will release a novel during winter 2010-11.

David and his wife, Carolyn, live in San Francisco. They have three adult children.
