Mark Smith named director of Scholes Library
Alfred University Provost William Hall today announced he has appointed Mark Smith as director of Scholes Library of Ceramics and associate dean of Libraries for the University.
Smith has been a librarian at Scholes since 1991 and has served as Information systems librarian since 1994. He assumed the responsibilities of head of technical services for the library in 2002, and was promoted to full librarian in 2007.
“Mark has made significant contributions to the operations of Scholes Library for nearly two decades,” Hall noted. “His sound scholarship and teaching have been recognized by his colleagues and peers and his service to the University has been vital as is evidenced by his contribution to committees and the Faculty Senate. In 2004, he was recognized with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship. We are relying on his leadership to help us meet the challenges of the new academic year.”
A graduate of Elmira College, Smith earned his master’s in library science from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
