AU alumna returns to campus in eclectic Underscore Orkestra performance

The eclectic Underscore Orkestra, including Alfred University alumna Danielle Smith, will perform at AU on Saturday Sept. 4, at 8 p.m. in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Underscore Orkestra, from Portland, OR, brings to the stage a romping mix of Balkan, Klezmer, Gypsy Jazz and Swing, with a repertoire consisting of both original and traditional material. Smith, AU Class of 2007 and a leader in the Middle Eastern Dance Organization during her time at the University, is one of the six members of the group; she dances and plays percussion.

During the past six-plus years, Underscore Orkestra has toured extensively worldwide including the East and West Coast of the United States, Eastern and Western Europe, Canada, and Mexico, wowing audiences with its high-energy eclecticism, in intimate coffee shops and large outdoor festivals.

Smith has been dancing and performing for more than 15 years. A? student of many styles from Balkan to Butoh, her love affair with ?belly dance in particular has been her gateway into live music, both ?the playing of and dancing to. With both The Underscore Orkestra? and RevelMe! she offers a dynamic performance. For more detail, go to: www.DanielleSmithBellyDan....
