AU professor to discuss the Manhattan Project at Bergren Forum

Geoffrey Bowers, assistant professor in the Chemistry Department at Alfred University, will present “Greatest Achievement of the Greatest Generation? Reflections on the Manhattan Project” on Thursday, Sept. 2, during AU’s Bergren Forum at 12:10 p.m., in Powell Campus Center’s Nevins Theatre. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Bowers earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University. At Alfred University, he is currently the Dr. Sanford S. Cole and Francis Halderman Cole Assistant Professor of Chemistry and holds an adjunct appointment as assistant professor in the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering.

His academic interests include physical chemistry, general chemistry, and environmental chemistry. The research Bowers performs at Alfred involves studying the structure and dynamics of environmental and engineering materials using NMR.

The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
