AU volleyball team splits pair at Hamilton tri-match

CLINTON, NY – The Alfred University volleyball team split a pair of matches played Saturday at Hamilton College.

The Saxons (1-2) lost to host Hamilton 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-12), then rebounded to beat Green Mountain College in three games (25-17, 25-20, 25-15).

Junior Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 10 kills, two digs and a service ace to lead AU in the victory over Green Mountain. Freshman Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) had six kills and a solo block; freshman Tara Barone (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) had 19 assists and four digs; and freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had four kills, two assists, six service aces, three digs and two blocks.

Crosby had five kills and four digs and sophomore Kellie Hughson (Albion, NY/Charles D’Amico) had three service aces and a pair of digs in the match against Hamilton. Freshman Paige Jensen (Weiser, ID/Weiser) had three kills and three digs; Baron had nine assists; and Hall and Wood each had three kills and two digs.

AU is in action next on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. at Fredonia.
