ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s tennis team lost its 2010 Empire 8 Conference opener, falling to visiting St. John Fisher, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon.

AU (0-2, 0-1 Empire 8) got singles wins from junior Griffin Currie (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), 6-3-6-1 in first singles; and senior Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida), 6-2, 4-3 (opponent retired) in second singles.

St. John Fisher (1-0, 1-0 Empire 8) won four singles matches and swept the three doubles matches.

AU is in action next on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m. at Pitt-Bradford.
