ELMIRA, NY — The Alfred University women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season Tuesday, topping host Elmira College, 5-4, in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

AU (1-4, 1-2 Empire 8) got singles wins from junior Griffin Currie (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), 6-3-6-1 in first singles; senior Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida), 6-2, 6-4 in second singles; and senior Kate Cohen (Bradford, PA/Bradford), 6-2, 6-0 in third singles.

AU took two of three doubles matches. Currie and McLain won their first doubles match, 8-4, while sophomore Shannon Tovey (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) and Cohen shut out their second doubles opponent, 8-0.

AU is in action next this afternoon, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m. at home against Wells College.
