HAMBURG, NY – The Alfred University volleyball team evened its 2010 record with a tough 3-2 victory over host Hilbert College Tuesday evening.

The back-and-forth match saw the Saxons (3-3) win the first game, 25-13, before Hilbert answered with a 25-16 win in game two. The teams traded close wins in the third game (25-23, Alfred) and fourth (26-24, Hilbert), before Alfred took the decisive fifth game, 15-9.

Junior Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had six kills, two service aces, nine digs and a block and freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had six kills, one ace, six digs and a pair of blocks to pace Alfred.

Freshman Tara Barone (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) had 24 assists to go with six digs; freshman Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) had six kills and three solo blocks; freshman Paige Jensen (Weiser, ID/Weiser) had seven kills, five digs and a block; and senior Erica Huyck (Forestville, NY/Forestville) had three service aces and seven digs for the Saxons.

AU is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 18, when the Saxons host a tri-match with Morrisville and D’Youville. AU takes on D’Youville at noon and Morrisville at 4 p.m.
