ALFRED, NY – Freshman midfielder Jeffery Thomas (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) scored with just under 10 minutes left in regulation to give the Alfred University men’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Morrisville State Wednesday evening on Merrill Field.

Senior defender Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) assisted on the winning goal, which came at the 80:29 mark. It capped a solid effort by the Saxons, who dominated play for most of the game. AU (3-2-1) outshot the visiting Mustangs, 21-8, and held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

AU junior goalie Elliott Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunder Ridge) made three saves to earn the shutout, while Shane Sullivan finished with six saves for Morrisville (3-2-0).

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m. at Hilbert.
