AU men’s soccer shuts out Hilbert 4-0

HAMBURG, NY —The Alfred University men’s soccer team shut out host Hilbert College 4-0, Saturday afternoon.

Senior Mark Nesbitt (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) scored the first goal of the game at the 41:52 mark in the first half.

The Saxons came out firing in the second half, scoring unanswered goals to end the scoring at 4-0. Sophomore Frankie Mannino (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) started the second half charge just seven minutes into the second half, assisted by senior Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). Fourteen minutes later freshman Zachary Kranefeled (Millville, NJ/Millville) netted an assisted goal from junior Ean Kelleher (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh). Sophomore Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/ New Providence) closed out the scoring at the 87:37 mark, assisted by junior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond).

The Saxons out shot Hilbert 30-11, while using a trio of goalies. Junior Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/ Thunder Ridge) made two saves playing the first 59:49 of the game. Freshmen Jacob Bird (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) and Samuel Guy (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) split the remainder of the match, making two and one saves respectively. Cislak Kamil played 70:40 in net for Hilbert making eight saves, and was relieved by Kraska Jeremy who made three saves in the final 19:20 of the game.

Alfred (4-2-1, 0-0-0 E8) is in action next on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. when they travel to take on Wells College.
