AU volleyball teams drops two Sunday matches at E8 tournament

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University volleyball team lost a pair of matches Sunday at the Empire 8 Conference crossover tournament, hosted by RIT.

The Saxons (5-9, 0-4 Empire 8) lost to Elmira 3-1 (25-11, 25-13, 25-11) and then fell in three games to St. John Fisher(25-13, 25-10, 25-20).

Against Elmira, Alfred was led by junior Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport) with five kills and five digs. Freshman Tara Barone (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) had 15 assists and freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had four kills and five digs.

Hall had four kills and eight digs in the Fisher match. Barone had eight assists and senior Erika Huyck (Forestville, NY/Forestville) had 12 digs.

The top four teams in this weekend’s tournament and the Oct. 22-23 crossover at Ithaca will play in the conference championship tournament Nov. 7, with the winner earning a berth in the NCAA championships.

Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at home against Brockport.
