ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s soccer team was shut out, 1-0, at home against visiting Elmira College Saturday evening.

Elmira (5-2-2, 2-0-0 Empire 8) got the game winner from Scott Leone at the 32:30 mark. The Saxons held an 11-10 advantage in shots, and a 7-5 advantage of shots on goal, but where unable to capitalize on several opportunities.

Junior goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/ThunderRidge) made four saves in net for Alfred (4-4-2, 0-2-0 Empire 8). Jared Micheller stopped seven shots in goal for Elmira to earn the shutout.

Alfred plays next on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m. at home against Ithaca College.
