Visiting Ithaca blanks AU women’s soccer team

ALFRED, NY —The Alfred University women’s soccer team lost to visiting Ithaca College, 5-0, in an Empire 8 Conference contest Saturday afternoon.

Rachael Palladino tallied a pair of first half goals (8-2-0, 4-0-0 Empire 8), and Julie Winn, Kaitlyn Hoffay, and Megan Trager, each netted second half goals for the Bombers who outshot Alfred 47-3. Winn added an assist along with, Liz Masucci, Jackie Rodabaugh, and Kelly Hand.

Senior Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie Valley) made 15 saves in goal for Alfred (2-5-3, 0-4-2 Empire 8) playing the first 73:30, before being relieved by sophomore Rebecca Windover (Lowville, NY/Lowville) who made one save in 16:30 of action. Jessica Platt played the first half for Ithaca; Alyssa Sotomayor started the second half and made one save, before being relieved by Becca Salant for the final eleven minutes of the game. The three combined to earn the shutout victory for Ithaca.

Alfred is in action next on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. at home against Stevens.
