ALFRED, NY — Ryan Thon (Victor, NY/Victor), a senior wide receiver on the Alfred University football team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Thon was honored for his play in the Saxons’ 35-14 victory at Hartwick Saturday afternoon. He caught 10 passes for 165 yards and set a new school record with four touchdown catches. Three of the scoring catches (measuring 15, five and 13 yards) came in the first half as AU jumped out to a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter. His record-setting catch, a 21-yarder, came on Alfred’s opening possession of the second half and gave the Saxons a 21-7 lead.

Alfred (5-0, 2-0 Empire 8) is ranked 19th in this week’s D3football.com national poll. The Saxons are in action next on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. at RPI.
