AU women’s soccer team shuts out Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA-- The lady Saxons got six goals from six different scorers en route to a 6-0, shutout victory over host Penn College Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) started the scoring netting the first goal off an assist from senior midfielder Erin Crandall (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond), just over seven minutes into the game. Junior defender Kristen Bartiss (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) netted a goal at the 32:20 mark, that made the lead 2-0, at the half.

The Saxons offensive attack continued in the second half, resulting in four second half goals. Junior midfielder Molly Finnerty ( Watertown, NY/Watertown), sophomore midfielder Samantha Randall (Homer, NY/Homer), and junior forward AnnMarie Ventura (Olean, NY/Olean), each scored an unassisted goal, and senior forward Abbey Schnaffinit (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) capped the scoring with an assisted goal from sophomore midfielder Tracy McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili).

Alfred (3-6-3, 0-5-2 E8) outshot Penn College 35-2. Senior goalie Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie) played the first half in net Alfred, before being relieved by sophomore Rebecca Windover (Lowville, NY/Lowville) (one save) in the second half. Amanda Reedy played the first 81:53 in goal and made eight saves, before being relieved by Kierstin Steer for the final five minutes who made one save for Penn College (5-6).

Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. against host St. John Fisher.
