ALFRED, NY – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has recognized the 2010 Alfred University softball team for academic excellence and cited four members of the team for their accomplishments in the classroom.

The NFCA recently released its list of all-academic teams and AU was ranked 81st out of 368 Division III squads with a team grade point average of 3.132.

In addition, four AU players — 2010 graduates second baseman Karen Folts (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), outfielder Shannon Mather (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and first baseman Jessica French (Springwater, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) and senior pitcher Chelsey Cary (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) — were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes. To earn that honor, a player must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
